Full House Desserts

I love desserts. Especially Chinese desserts! Don’t get me wrong, I do love my creme brulee, cheesecake, mousse cake and such, but there is something about Chinese desserts that hits home more than these other ones. Maybe because I grew up eating them, or maybe it’s because it’s not crazy sweet like most western desserts. I was so glad for the existence of Full House Desserts here! Full House Dessert is a very famous chain dessert restaurant in Hong Kong, but I am not sure if this particular Full House Desserts in Richmond Hill is affiliated with the one in HK. Regardless, their desserts taste just like the ones in HK! I first went to this place a few years ago, but since I started university, I have not been here, until recently. And I am so glad I did (but my waistline isn’t quite happy about this LOL)Another huge plus for this restaurant is the price. The most expensive dessert is $10, and most of them are around $5 – 6.50. The place itself is pretty small, so if you are heading there Friday-Sunday, you might want to get there early!

My favourite dessert is their Durian Pancake ($8). For those of you that don’t know what’s durian… it’s that spikey fruit that stinks really bad, but it tastes really good (at least to me)! The pancake is basically durian + whipped cream wrapped in this interesting pastry that is slightly elastic but tastes sweet also. Because of the large amount of whipped cream, it’s tres delicious (and filling). It’s great for indulging in once in a while, but definitely not something that I would recommend getting every week!

Along the similar line, there’s the Mango Pancake ($6.50). It seems like this is one of the most popular dessert in the restaurant. It’s sold out the first time I went there this month, and the owner/waitress suggested us to call in earlier during the night and reserve it. They can hold it for around 2 hours, but not any longer than that. If you are planning on visiting this place later in the night (around 10PM or later), and you want to try this, I highly suggest calling them and reserving a serving!

Another popular dessert at Full House Dessert is a very famous Hong Kong dessert, the Full House Sago ($6.50). It has mango, mini sago pearls, mango juice, and evaporated milk. It is a staple item in any HK dessert restaurants. While it still tastes really good here, I prefer the ones in Hong Kong, simply because there are sweeter mangoes in Hong Kong.

Full House Sago

A slight variation of this dessert is the Full House Sago with Coconut Palm Seeds ($6.50). It’s basically the same with Full House Sago, but wil the addition of coconut palm seeds. Coconut palm seeds don’t taste much on their own, they just add an interesting dimension to the dessert since they are slightly crunchy, as contrast to the rest of the dessert, which is smooth.

I decided to venture out of my usual list of desserts, and got the Black Glutinous Rice with Mango ($5). It is a coconut milk-based dessert, with black glutinous rice, and mango. It can be served cold or hot, and I chose hot since I am used to having black glutinous rice warm! It is a great alternative to the typical mango based dessert, and I feel like it’s slightly healthier. It is slightly sweet, but not overwhelming at all. I love dessert but I don’t really have a sweet tooth, and I think this one hits the perfect level of sweetness!

Overall I really recommend this place if you are in the GTA area, or if you are visiting this place. It is closed on Wednesday though!

  1. I freaking love Full House Sago and Black Glutinous Rice with Mango. My friends think black rice is weird but it tastes sooooo good. Wish I can go to Hong Kong right now 😦 Haven’t been back since 2010.

    Lol I can’t eat durian…does the pancake taste durian-y?

    • I love black rice so much! I’m going to HK this summer so I am really excited!! My last time in HK was 2010 too!

The pancake is… full of durian haha. So if you can’t eat durian.. you won’t be able to eat it 😦

  2. I can’t stand the smell of durian, but that mango pancake looks unreal! I’ve never seen anything like that. I love sago, I mostly prefer it hot and and plain 🙂 either plain coconut sago or taro sago! There’s just something about hot sago that really warms your tummy ^__^
